Aladdin announces the beta release of its eToken PRO and eToken
PRO Smartcard devices based on the Java Card smart-card operating system.
Important:These new devices are offered in addition to the
current Infineon/Siemens CardOS devices, and provide the same functionality. Java
Card devices optionally enable customers to extend the tokens’ functionality by
loading custom Java applets – see below.
Aladdin continues to supply and fully support its existing eToken PRO and PRO Smartcard
models with Siemens CardOS.
Flexible, extendable platform allowing customers to load their
own Java applets on board the tokens for their custom applications.
Highly secured and standardized platform using a common Java Virtual
Machine, which is fully compatible with Sun Java standards (Java Card 2.2.2, Global
platform 2.1.1).
More user storage space - 72K memory, with 55K free memory.
eToken Java Card devices can be used by customers/partners seeking eToken smart-card-based
security solutions: secure access, digital signing of transactions, single sign-on,
disk encryption, and more.
Java Card devices are most appropriate for customers and/or partners looking
to load Java applets on board the eToken device for their own custom
applications (note: this requires application development by the customer/partner).
eToken Java Card devices are supported only by PKI Client 4.5.
In addition, eToken Java Card devices operate with third-party applications developed
with SDK 3.60 using PKCS#11, and with applications to be developed with SDK 4.5.
Pre-boot authentication using Java Card devices will be supported
in the release of the eToken pre-boot SDK that will be available to partners with
the Java Card GA release scheduled for Oct '07.
Java Card device is scheduled for general availability on September 2007. Pricing
information will be communicated toward the GA release.

Aladdin announces the release of the eToken PKI Software Developer’s Kit 4.5.
The eToken PKI Software Developer’s Kit (SDK) 4.5 enables developers to integrate
eToken PKI functionality into their products. eToken PKI Client 4.5 functionality
is exposed through the PKCS#11, CAPI, and/or SAPI interfaces.
eToken PKI SDK 4.5 is now released as documentation, supporting the full functionality
of PKI Client 4.5. The eToken PKI SDK 4.5 documentation covers the following areas:
- PKCS#11 – Public Key Cryptography Standards (PKCS) #11 is a standard
API set defining a generic interface to cryptographic tokens.
- PKCS#11 extension – A proprietary Aladdin extension to enhance
the token interface. Extensions are fully documented.
- CAPI –CryptoAPI (CAPI) is a standard API developed by Microsoft
as part of Microsoft Windows. It is intended for use by developers of applications
for MS Windows.
- SAPI – Supplementary API (SAPI) was first introduced in eToken
RTE 3.60 to provide eToken-specific capabilities not covered by the PKCS#11 standard.
This functionality is available now via PKCS#11 API. SAPI is supported in PKI Client with certain documented restrictions and may be used by applications.
However the new features are not supported via SAPI. You are encouraged to use PKCS#11
for new development (unless the application is required to run on eToken RTE 3.65
as well). SAPI is fully documented.
