Aladdin eSafe Increases Security through New IM File Transfer Blocking
Aladdin eSafe now offers enhanced AppliFilter technology that blocks potentially
harmful file transfers while still allowing legitimate IM messaging
-
CHICAGO, August 2, 2006 - Aladdin Knowledge
Systems (NASDAQ: ALDN), the leader in Software DRM, identity management,
and content security solutions, today announced its Aladdin eSafe gateway-based
content security solution now offers enhanced AppliFilter™ features that allow
organizations to block file sharing in Instant Message (IM) applications.
-
IM file transfers stand as a fast-growing threat, serving as one of the major vulnerabilities
in organizations' Internet security. Phishing attacks, spam, spyware, viruses and
worms are now commonly transferred through seemingly harmless IM use within the
enterprise.
-
A unique technology of its kind, eSafe's AppliFilter allows organizations to continue
using convenient text messaging applications while gaining assurance that potentially
dangerous file transfers are blocked. With the deployment of eSafe's new AppliFilter
rules, organizations gain significant Internet protection through powerful identification
and blocking features that instantly halt the transfer of files that may contain
malicious code, pirated content or confidential data. AppliFilter assesses ICQ/AOL
Instant Messenger, MSN Messenger, Windows Messenger and Yahoo Messenger traffic
at the gateway, easily identifying IM protocols while in transit. eSafe is also
the only solution that can effectively block Skype, a popular IP telephony and instant
messaging application considered to be a security breach in many organizations.
-
"One of the main vectors for malware in instant messaging has always been file transferring,"
said Matt Anderson, Market Analyst at The Radicati Group. "Through AppliFilter,
organizations can benefit from the increased productivity that IM platforms offer,
without the risk of infection through rogue file transfers."
-
"The enhanced AppliFilter inside Aladdin eSafe gives organizations the best of both
worlds - added security and continued efficiency through the uninterrupted use of
IM applications," said Shimon Gruper, vice president of technology for the Aladdin
eSafe Business Unit. "Many organizations rely on IM applications just as they rely
on email. Aladdin answers this need to continue its use while maximizing security
- the cornerstone of eSafe innovation."
-
The newly enhanced AppliFilter rules are automatically available to all eSafe 5
customers through Aladdin's advanced, secure eSafe Care update system. Aladdin eSafe
customers with subscriptions to the eSafe Care service can activate IM File Transfer
blocking rules immediately.
